Where Las Vegas convention visitors stay, shop, and have fun while in town

Azira went to ICSC 2022 Las Vegas this year, so we wanted to see what convention goers do in Sin City when they leave the convention floor.  It turns out they have plenty of fun while they’re in town, taking in shows, doing some shopping and visiting top attractions.

Azira Research looked at the top spots Las Vegas Convention Center visitors went outside of the convention center – here’s what we found:  

Where did they stay?

When it comes to where convention goers decided to stay, proximity was the priority.  The top 4 hotels were roughly within a block of the convention center.  The 5th spot went to The Venetian, which is still within a mile of the convention center, and is one of the largest hotels in Las Vegas with over 4,000 rooms.  Here are the top 5 places convention goers stayed:

  1. Westgate Las Vegas Resort (8.6% of convention goers visited)
  2. Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel (7.9%)
  3. SAHARA Las Vegas (6.2%)
  4. SpringHill Suites by Marriott (5.7%)
  5. The Venetian Resort (5.6%)

Where did they shop?

Shopping is a popular activity in Las Vegas, and that’s true for convention goers as well. Vegas shopping centers not only offer a wide variety of stores ranging from bargain to luxury, but many of the malls are tourist attractions in their own right. Complete with building facades, faux skies and gondola rides, the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian topped the list. Meanwhile, the Esplanade at Wynn focuses primarily on high-end luxury stores, but provides the main corridor to get into the popular hotel casino. The Forum Shops at Caesars, The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, and the Fashion Show Mall rounded out the top 5.

  3. The Forum Shops at Caesars (4.3%)

How did they have fun?

It’s no secret that Las Vegas offers diversions aplenty, which is why we wanted to see which spots convention goers gravitate towards. The most popular spot of any we looked at was the Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck at Paris Las Vegas, which attracted more than 20% of the convention goers studied.  The quintessential Bellagio Fountains were tied in second with the Marvel Avengers STATION, an immersive experience including props from several Marvel movies.  Other popular Vegas attractions included the High Roller, a 550-foot high ferris wheel with views of the Strip, and the Gondola Rides at The Venetian.

  1. Eiffel Tower Viewing Deck at Paris Las Vegas (20.2% of convention goers visited)
  2. Bellagio Fountain (18.0%)
  3. Marvel Avengers STATION at Treasure Island (18.0%)
  4. High Roller at Linq (9.9%)
  5. Gondola Rides at The Venetian (8.3%)

Many conference attendees also made time to take in a show.  While hitmakers like Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars snag the buzz and headlines, it’s the ever-popular Cirque du Soleil style shows that bring in the most consistent audiences. Mystère is the longest-running Cirque show on the Strip, and still made it to the top of this list. Opium, a newer adults-only show, snagged the second spot.  Other popular Cirque du Soleil mainstays, Beatles LOVE and O, were third and fourth.  Atomic Saloon, by the same creators as Opium, rounded out the top 5.

  3. Beatles LOVE at The Mirage (2.2%)
  4. O at Bellagio (2.1%)
  5. Atomic Saloon at The Venetian (1.8%)

Azira studied visitors to the Las Vegas Convention Center for recent conferences from January 5 – March 24, 2022. Reports used included Estimated Visitors and Vista Data around footfall.
